Something slows down File Explorer
I've observed some performance issues with the GUI and file handling on my Windows system. The mouse scrolling feels sluggish, and clicking files in File Explorer sometimes triggers a delay when using Shift. A recent Windows update and reset helped, but dragging items into the selection box still causes lag. It seems the free scroll functionality might have improved after the reset, though file selection remains slower whether using a mouse or keyboard. It appears the changes to File Explorer could be affecting performance, possibly due to an updated interface or another application interfering. I've scanned for malware and checked system health, but no problems were found. I also tried closing all running apps, but it didn't resolve the issue.
Make sure your wireless mouse isn't linked to a USB hub. Hubs can cause problems if another device uses a lot of power, leaving others with insufficient energy. A USB flash drive or Ethernet adapter working under stress helps resolve this. Interference and signal range are also potential causes. Bandwidth usage can lead to unusual behavior and delays. On older or slower systems, the USB controller relies on the system's CPU; heavy workloads may slow down USB performance as well.
I don't rely on a wireless mouse for this machine. It seems like something unexpected showed up and vanished. Could be connected to Windows updates, though I'm not certain.
