Consider if you have any options... otherwise, you risk exposing yourself to serious risks due to security patches. There must be a good reason for these measures.

Technically it's possible, but in real life it's unlikely. My PC refuses to install updates after April 2018. I didn't provide an accurate error message until I tried the media creation tool. It seems the sound card is interfering with the startup process.

You're facing a tricky situation with an outdated system and a specialized hardware component. It seems you're trying to upgrade or replace something on a Windows 7 machine, but there are limitations on what drivers or software might support. The display chip you mentioned isn't standard, so checking if any compatible drivers exist for Win10 would be important. Since your current setup is stable but not ideal, consider whether upgrading to Windows 10 could provide better performance and more options for hardware support.

Some computers in our home are still running Windows 7. I’m thinking about switching back, but I’m concerned about staying safe once support stops. I worry that many changes will be made to take advantage of this... Since newer devices cost money, Windows 10 seems like a better option. Most monitors at my old school were 1280x1024 and they also moved to Windows 10. That upgrade was a real step back, because everything slowed down and became sluggish. Teachers have even complained about it.

I don't have the same setup, but I see you're using different versions across devices. My brother's machine also runs Windows 10 Pro, while your dad was on Windows XP until recently when he switched to Windows 10 due to iTunes support issues. Your mom's laptop is on a 32-bit version of Windows 10 Home, which can be tricky for newer apps. I used an old PC from my family that originally had Windows 7 but now supports Windows 10 after upgrading, with an i5-650 processor, 8GB RAM, and a GT710 chipset. It works fine for whatever he needs.

You can purchase a refurbished GPU for around $50 (provided your system supports PCIe). You could also build a whole new gaming PC using Ryzen components for about $350, complete with an SSD and all the necessary parts.

$350 isn't insignificant at all. It covers a whole vacation. I'd rather keep it, particularly if what I already own works fine.
