I had to reinstall Windows 10 since it was originally installed without the RAID driver, and it crashed when I tried to reactivate it. Now it won’t let me reactivate my Windows Insider version. It says the activation server blocked the key I’m using. Even though I’m running a Pro edition ISO, it’s telling me I have Home edition instead.
Attempt to restore your earlier Windows version, then upgrade using the 'Get Windows 10' tool. Make sure to log in with a Microsoft account during the first time to connect the license to your profile. It seems the activation servers are being overloaded, preventing the link between your old OS and Windows 10. Consider keeping Windows 10 for at least a month before performing a clean install.
The preview version was moved to a free copy after an insider update. Originally, insiders were meant to keep the legitimate copy active as long as they remained insiders. I stayed an insider and never stopped using it. I attempted to reinstall the preview but it wouldn’t update to the final build. Now, every time I reinstall it, it crashes after a couple reboots—likely because of a raid configuration change during a firmware update. Windows didn’t loop, so I usually just let it finish booting. I’m dual-booting two systems: one with Windows 10 and another with Windows 7, the latter for Media Center. I still have the insider edition on my second PC. Can an emergency restore disk be created since all insiders used the same product key?
I understand the Insider Preview is now closed. It’s unclear if this affects anything. Microsoft plans to restart it later as they prepare for Windows 10.1. At the moment, they seem focused on collaborating with partners to resolve driver issues and address bugs from increased usage. There are whispers about a major update in early August containing numerous fixes. Once that’s done, they expect to re-launch the insider program and begin work on 10.1.
