hey, some weird stuff happened with my pc after I tried to turn off Windows Defender. First of all, none of the settings related to group policies or regedit worked for me either. Whatever I did, windows defender keeps coming back on. Anyway, i finally managed to disable it by trying lots of things, including a windows aero program (which didn't work and made another problem happen). now i have other issues: - first, the address bar in regedit doesn't work right. when i paste some regedit urls into the address bar and hit enter, nothing happens. it doesn't open that folder path; i have to navigate manually instead. this was not like before. - second, for windows-related settings, like win explorer scrollbar visibility, when i enable or disable that setting nothing changes. the scrollbar is still hidden. it never becomes visible like we used to have. that setting was working before too. - another thing is search suggestions you get when opening the start menu. i used to be able to turn them off now i can't anymore. - last one is another problem with the start menu, specifically bing search suggestions. you know when you type something in and try to open an app on the windows start menu, bing shows websearch results. i had disabled this before, but now it doesn't work. i started getting those bing search results again. so in the end, must have done something bad? maybe a virus? what do you think? i am thinking to reset windows, but if there is a way to fix these problems first, that would be good.
You wanted to turn off Defender but are worried about getting a virus? Maybe. You might also not fully understand why you would want to disable something so important for the computer that messing around in the registry is dangerous. My suggestion is to back up everything like your documents, pictures, and personal stuff first. Then try installing the software directly from an official Microsoft USB drive and just leave it alone after that.
first of all, i am a very experienced guy (20 years old) and no, i never did anything related to cracking or keygens. after trying to stop windows defender, here is why: because i always do it. i don't like if the stuff runs in the background. i have always disabled defender before with win 10 and older versions and never got any viruses for like ten years. i also didn't suspect that a virus would care about my scrollbar feature... sometimes when you try to disable windows defender, things get messed up with ownership so only thing i could think of is this. maybe there is some ownership setting that makes the settings not work on certain features...
