Some queries regarding Quest 2 and Pico 4
Hello everyone, I'm considering getting a VR headset. I'm leaning toward the Quest 2 because of its solid reviews and the Beat Sabre game available on Steam. Most of my purchases will be made via Steam. Can anyone share their experience with both headsets for PCVR—using a cable or wirelessly? Also, regarding wireless PCVR, does it connect directly to your computer like an ASUS PCE-AX58BT WiFi 6 PCI-e card, or does it go through the router?
I really liked the Quest 2 as a VR headset, especially for standalone beatsaber; cable and wireless PCVR felt a bit more awkward. I received the Pico 4 when it came out because of the pancake lens buzz, but I’m not impressed with it and might end up selling it on eBay. Running PCVR beatsaber over Wi-Fi 6 causes lag and dropped frames with my current rig, and I think the Quest 2 gave a much smoother experience. The Pico has room for improvement through updates, but since they can’t match the Quest 2’s popularity, I doubt we’ll see as much software development soon.
Hi, thanks for your message. The pancake lens is a component used in certain audio setups, and its purpose is important for optimal sound quality. I haven’t tried the specific models connected together, but I’m curious about using a cable between them. Regarding wireless connections, you can connect the headset directly to a computer without a cable, though it may require a router connection. For the Pico device, there’s a wireless dongle available that might help with this setup, and it could work with your WiFi 6 card as well.
pancake lenses are more delicate than fresnel designs and lack the usual steps found in traditional fresnel systems. These design elements in fresnel lenses are meant to boost light and reduce image clarity near the edges. Personally, I find the pancake lens from the Pico too close to my eyes—my lashes almost touch it. I used SteamVR with a cable for a functional experience, but since my Beatsaber is available on the Oculus Store, I switched to a wireless virtual desktop. I prefer not having a physical connection after getting used to standalone Beatsaber on the Quest 2. My Wi-Fi configuration has changed significantly since the Quest 2 era, which could affect performance differences with the Pico. My PC connects via cable to my Wi-Fi 6 router; I haven’t tested it with just a network card, but I think Windows might support PCIe cards for that. The dongle is still being promoted, though no official launch date has been announced, and similar updates are expected for body trackers.
I own Quest 2 but haven't played it on a PC before—except once for a game jam. I mostly use Beat Saber. It's cool and I see more people getting into it. Maybe Pavlov on PC is the best choice to try. I only play Beat Saber.
