So for any reason my Microsoft Windows didn't reactivate on my new PC at all, despite following their instructions and dealing with poor support, it seems completely unreachable. I searched online but only found results about real copies or physical copies of the Windows key. I'm curious whether buying just a product key that says "DOES NOT bind to Microsoft account" is meant to activate Windows quickly, or if it's for a one-time activation. If they claim not to bind, are those codes still valid? Also, do these codes remain effective after major hardware changes? I'm a bit concerned about these codes and would find it frustrating if every time I reset my PC I had to buy another one. Right now I've switched to Windows 11 and just need to activate it, but Microsoft Support is still not great.

It seems unclear if you're referring to third-party reseller sites offering discounts on such keys. If that's the case, we can't assist here due to legal uncertainties. Buying the OS directly from MS would be the correct approach.

I'm thinking about an OEM license key. The drawback is that they're linked to the BIOS chip, so changing the board requires a new key.
Recently I switched to Windows 11.
Have you completed the internal upgrade from Windows 10? If yes, you'll need to reinstall the operating system.

The most affordable genuine site offering W11P keys is Newegg. Immediate shipping available. I can't verify if the "Home" version is the cheapest.
I've never seen any mention that a Home or Pro key would fail to connect to an MS account, since an account is required for initial setup.
Many others and I have experienced problems with W10 to W11 entitlement being deactivated later. I also couldn't get anyone to explain this issue. When I received the email with the (W10) key purchased directly from Microsoft, it was strange that my purchase history didn't list any of the W7 or W10 keys I've bought over the years, and the PC suddenly disappeared from the "Devices" section in my MS account details online.

Yeah, I went with an internal upgrade since it didn’t activate properly either. It kept showing the error code and, even when I tried the hardware change, nothing appeared. That’s why I reached out to Microsoft, but it seemed like a tough sell. So I decided to switch to Windows 11 now, plan to use a code, but no one would buy directly from Microsoft because the price in EUR is too high. I’m okay with legitimate options, but I won’t pay a fortune for them.

Do you have a manual about finding more affordable codes as mentioned in the article?

Certainly. You can also decide to buy a key from a reseller, which will activate it. As mentioned in the article you referenced, the owner of one of these sites claims it's legitimate. I wonder if Microsoft would view it the same way! This creates a 'grey' area. Also, I'm not suggesting MS should pay full price for a complete license.
