I’m really sure it’s the top choice, since you have a whole year to upgrade for free. I don’t think it’ll be available to everyone—especially those without a Windows license, because it wouldn’t make sense for them and Microsoft would lose money. (It’s a bit of a confusing situation for them.)

It might transform your Windows 7/8 key into a Windows 10 version, especially if you later purchase a new motherboard running Windows 10. However, this could depend on the activation process and Microsoft's policies.

They are taking this action for several reasons:
-Windows 8 caused significant issues.
-Many users delay switching to a new operating system (sometimes more than a year).
-Necessity to ensure everyone uses the Windows Store for software sales and revenue.
-Improves their public image.
