Some people seem to hate Linux
I don’t grasp why some folks view Linux as more than just a choice. I shared my setup on a video about a floatplane, explaining my current environment. I run XUbuntu (XKCE Desktop) on my laptop, which came preloaded with Windows. As a student in computer programming, I’m meant to use Windows 10, but most days I stay away from it. My machine has an HDD and now an SSD, plus an external drive with a Windows VM. I only switch to Windows when I need to write C code for Unix compatibility—usually for my professor’s work. I also rely on Visual Studio for C/C++, so Windows is essential. The only time I boot into Windows is for a school browser that blocks online tests. Linux feels solid now; I use it mainly for coding and it works smoothly. I enjoy having a customizable dock like on a Mac and can tweak RGB settings with software. I’m not concerned about viruses since the code is open-source. Steam loads fast, Doom is my favorite game, and I’m learning Unity. Blender would be nice too. I have a dock similar to Mac, and I’ve found tools to control keyboard colors safely. I’m confident the software I use is secure because it’s publicly reviewed. I play games on Linux and love Steam. Eclipse is my Java tool, Spotify and Firefox are set up, and I use PIA VPN on Ubuntu. Are you a retro gamer? We’ve got plenty of emulators! It’s clear there’s a lot to explore. For me, switching to Windows feels like stepping onto a boat that’s becoming unstable and unsafe. Linux is clearly better now—most of my work runs smoothly there. I’d welcome the chance to help if anyone wants to join the discussion. This comment I made was 10 hours later with three dislikes. It might just be a sign people are resistant to Linux. Maybe they see it as “more Linux propaganda.” Linus mentioned another video in the future, but I wonder if he’d address some of this skepticism. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen such attitudes toward Windows. It feels like a “Screw Linux” mindset in tech circles. I’m confused—do people just dislike hearing about it? Do they think Linux is a joke? I hope someone could show how much effort goes into fixing Windows, or at least share a real Linux experience.
Most users stick to Linux, which means the video might not attract a wide audience. It would likely work better on a niche channel. Many people simply set up their operating system and let it run without much effort. As long as they can play games and browse the web, they don’t bother with switching platforms.
Linux offers a smooth experience for users... it tends to be selective about its collaborators. With Steam play coming along, gaming on Linux will become much easier in the future. The *nix community really needs a big, user-focused company to adapt their software, similar to Adobe CC...
It seems your Linux system became very sensitive recently. Opening Chromium alongside Discord caused it to freeze, and you're concerned about its stability.
I quickly identify several reasons someone might dislike your comment, such as saying Windows will only become more unstable, more dangerous, and less secure over time. Your entire message sounds like it comes from a typical Linux supporter, and then you push people to switch to Linux by telling them to "jump ship." While sharing personal experiences with an OS is normal, immediately criticizing others' choices and elevating yourself as superior can be off-putting.
However, it will cause me to forget about meeting my report due dates!!!
You can identify a vegan by their openness about their dietary choices. They’ll share details about their lifestyle. Running Linux isn’t a direct indicator, but it might reflect their values or personal preferences.
