Beyond Final Fantasy XIII's poor performance on PC, many are feeling let down by the new releases. Shadow of Mordor and The Evil Within seemed to fall short compared to their expectations.

Are you sure about this? The excitement around these two games seems exaggerated. I had to spend a long time on Watchdogs, about eight hours, but it didn’t really stick. I finished it and then removed it from my collection.

It’s smarter to steer clear of the excitement before games start... or at least don’t chase the buzz. Most titles fall short of their promises. Shadows of Mordor stands out on its own. I haven’t played The Evil Within, since it didn’t really capture my attention.

I'm not really interested anymore. I mostly play old games, and new ones are usually disappointing. Just give me Distance and Witcher 3, and I'll be ready for another year.

I don’t really get into hype, so I usually stay satisfied with what I see and feel. You shouldn’t assume a new game will deliver the best experience right away—check reviews or play it yourself before expecting perfection. My expectations matched my understanding of Assassin’s Creed, and when I saw Shadow of Mordor, it felt like Arkham City with a twist—more orcs and parkour elements.

Do you recall the time Far Cry 3 was compared to Skyrim but with weapons? It’s often cited as one of the most scathing reviews ever given to a game.

It wasn't entirely negative... Similar to guardians.

This year's sole new release I invested much time in was Dark Souls II in March, which is just another port (though at least an improvement over the original). Other titles seemed obvious failures right away. Watch_Dogs is a game that quickly faded from conversation after just a week. The most valuable games are the straightforward ones, not the ones reliant on ads and hype-makers.
