I've been attempting to install Linux on my 2006 MacBook Pro. Just in case you're curious, it's the 2006 Core 2 Duo model. Here’s the link for reference: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ma...specs.html This machine features a 64-bit CPU but a 32-bit EFI, which restricts the OS versions you can use. I opted for a 32-bit Linux setup. I've experimented with both Xubuntu and Ubuntu, but I don’t care which one I choose. Various approaches have been tried to create a bootable USB drive—UNETbootin failed, Terminal didn’t work, and the USB boot maker gave me a frustrating error message. Each time I attempt to boot from the flash drive, I’m met with the same frustrating response. What should I do next?

Have you verified the hard drive's condition?

Yeah, it's doing just fine... but the hard drive acting up shouldn't stop the laptop from booting off a USB.
