People’s schedules change after 10 reaches end-of-life. Many keep it running until support stops, then switch to Linux (I’m currently on Mint).

Usually I’ll move to Windows 11 when October arrives. I’ve been using a Linux distribution for a while now. It’s impressive, though it’s a bit too complicated for my gaming needs.

I used Windows 7 until 2021. It performed just fine, though everyone seemed upset when they told me to stop. Many people will continue using Windows 10 long after its end of life. Just like every operating system since computers began. There’s no significant difference between 10 and 11 in terms of users sticking around. My goal is to keep it until I can’t anymore. It doesn’t really matter because I still dislike Windows 10. The last OS I enjoyed was 7. Still, if Windows XP had window snapping, I’d be okay using that too. It’s been more than ten years since I saw a useful new Windows feature.

I run Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 with security patches available through 2032. My goal is to keep using Windows 10 at least until applications or games need more recent versions.

You definitely didn’t require EOL for that. MS erased my partner’s computer in October 2018; she used Win10 one time, then switched to Linux Mint. No issues—just kept going as if nothing changed except each month MS couldn’t recover it again. When I mentioned “wiped it,” MS brought it back to Win7 and everything was gone. Why? They’d fired their testing team to cut costs.

Why not just move to 11? 5 work PCs, 8 work laptops and 5 PCs at home are all on 11 and no issues. Unless you've had a bad experience yourself or for some technical reason Win11 isn't suitable, don't listen to the fear mongering. We all love to hate M$ but the reality is, your probably gonna move to Win11 at some point! Most of us do. I'm just waiting to see if M$ ever patch out the hardware and TMP bypass for Win11 as I have a few PCs that don't meet the requirements but seem to work perfectly well for the time being.

While I dislike the overly simplified appearance, it looks like just a UI update with most of the same functionality. The main goal of the OS is to make things easier for users, and it seems to do that effectively. I’ll feel sad when it reaches the end of its life, but then I’ll be ready to upgrade to version 11.

I quit Windows 10 on October 5th, 2021 across all my devices. I haven’t noticed any ads lately, so I’m not sure if it’s just rumors.

I believe most of the issues people report about Windows 11 aren't real. Just switch to Windows 11. The only concerns I have are with users on Zen 1 laptops, but there are plenty more. Seven years ago, 7th generation Intel chips were outdated. Those systems running older processors should upgrade for everyday use. If they need to adapt those machines for different purposes, they can keep them connected via LAN.
