Some games lack sound entirely.
Hey everyone, I just acquired a used laptop and encountered an issue with audio in some games. The problem isn’t related to any physical connections—this affects both HDMI audio and Bluetooth headphones, indicating it’s a software problem. Adjusting the audio settings only resolved the issue in one game, initially a Battlefield 2 instance where I switched from stereo to a different setting. I noticed that according to Windows Audio Mixer, most games still output sound even when disabled. So far, the following titles support audio: CoD WaW, Black Ops 1–3, AoM Retold, Age of Empires II & III, BF2, Battlefield BC2. Games without audio output include Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! *Intel i7 1185G7, Intel Iris Xe, 2x8GB RAM, 256GB m.2 SSD*
Start by confirming all updates are applied, particularly for your audio drivers. If you know the laptop's brand, usually the makers provide an app or instructions on their site to install the latest version for your model. Download the files and update your computer. I don't play Battlefield, but occasionally the sound doesn't go to my main output in certain games, especially those with voice controls. Verify in your game settings that the audio is set to your preferred output if needed.
drivers were current (first thing I did after getting the laptop), including Iris Xe drivers. The results were accurate, which I verified using my Windows audio mixer. I attempted to launch the game multiple times and sometimes heard sound, but it didn’t work reliably. It might just be an issue with Iris Xe overall.
