Hello everyone, I've been facing a persistent problem where my PC crashes to the desktop after launching certain games. Despite trying several troubleshooting steps and FAQ solutions, the issue remains unresolved. My system specifications are as follows: 64-bit OS, x64 processor, Windows 11 Pro version 22H2, AMD Ryzen 5 5600X (6 cores, 3.70 GHz), stock cooler, 32 GB RAM (two 16 GB modules), Corsair Vengeance LPX 3600mhz (3.44), NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090, MSI Suprim PSU, and a Samsung SSD 970 EVO 1TB NVME for the boot drive plus an SSD 850 EVO 250GB.

I've played several games without issues, including Elden Ring, Pathfinder, Hunt Showdown, Apex Legends, Gloomhaven, Divinity: Original Sin, Dark Souls, Monster Hunter Rise, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Rainbow Six Siege, Witcher 3, and Cyberpunk 2077. However, certain titles like Bullets per Minute, Dark and Darker, Marauders, Warhammer 40k Darktide, and Remnant 2 consistently crash to desktop as soon as I start playing.

The Event Viewer shows an exception code c0000005 when attempting to play Remnant. I've already tried numerous common fixes for this error. Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

From what you observe, the likely solution is updating the newest NVIDIA drivers since they might be causing crashes and instability. Also, check your CPU and cooler temperatures during games.

I just installed the GPU drivers before launching Remnant 2 for the first time. My system has a big case with strong airflow (Fractal Meshify), which keeps temperatures stable—no frequent checks needed while gaming. During initial stress tests, a 3D mark time monitor showed no overheating, staying below 85°C. I also play for long sessions in many titles without issues, suggesting the problem isn’t temperature-related.

No, there are no additional applications active at that time.

It would be wise to check your memory and storage devices since the issue relates to a memory error. Memtest 86 works well for RAM testing—consider running it at night. Regarding the drive, the best approach varies by brand; many come with built-in diagnostic software.

I've previously used Clean boots but that didn't fix the problem. Currently, I'm using Steam for Remnant 2 and SteelSeries headphones. I'm planning another memory test—this time I ran memtest86 overnight and got zero errors, which suggests it might not be the main issue. Any other advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

I changed components with my wife's PC to test RAM, video card, and power supply, but the same problems persisted. It seems the issue likely lies in the CPU or motherboard. For AMD 5600X, turning off precision boost clock settings in the BIOS didn’t help. Consider adjusting other BIOS parameters or checking for firmware updates before replacing the CPU.
