PC gaming trends in 2012: Consoles limit our potential! Titles don’t fully utilize our powerful PCs. PC gamers 2014: Games become overly challenging! Upgrading our systems feels necessary just to enjoy them! I’m a PC enthusiast, yet this situation seems quite amusing. (I still manage to play everything smoothly...)

I've heard that opinion before, but now I'm not complaining. Games look great, yet powerful hardware is essential for such experiences. I believe GTA V will hold a special place, especially since dual-core performance is becoming the norm. If you can't run it on two cores, four cores should be the standard.

The only game I ever had problems running with my R9 290 thus far is Black Flag. With V-sync off, it runs at 60+ fps but with HORRIBLE screen tearing. With V-sync on, it jumps from 60 to 30 fps and back to 60, over and over, making for a very choppy and annoying game play experience. Needless to say; with everything I've been hearing about ACU and FC4, I'm not touching any Ubisoft games from here on out. Everything else runs like butter. Don't mistake a demanding game for a poorly optimized game. There's a big difference. But, as things progress, eventually there will be games in the future that may be virtually unplayable on today's hardware. It's only natural we'll start seeing games that push current hardware.

Absolutely, folks on limited budgets will struggle to achieve solid frame rates until Intel's budget processors reach four cores. That’s disappointing, isn’t it?

They can obtain it now thanks to AMD's Athlon 860K with four cores.
