I'm trying to connect the old hard drive you transferred into your new computer. It works fine to access everything and see all files without issues. Windows claims there are around 10GB of photos and similar data, which seems correct, but the folders appear empty. I’m looking for the photos I saved there, but they’re missing. I’ve changed permissions and it mostly worked, though I still get denied access on Windows. I’m trying to figure out what’s happening but it’s confusing. I bought an SSD recently, and some of his files seem intact there. There’s also a mention that my OneDrive and his OneDrive merged, which I found odd. I don’t know if this relates to my problem, but I’d like to include everything for help.
Hi, try launching CMD with admin privileges and run the chkdsk /f /r command, confirm with Y and then restart your system. Wait for the process to complete; some problems might be fixed by this. Also, verify the Recycle Bin space allocation, indexing settings, and check if folder sizes have expanded unusually large values. You can also display hidden files and folders. Personally, I prefer using application folders, as it shows all folder sizes whenever you open a folder, making it easy to monitor which ones contain a lot of data.
Unable to run chkdsk /f /r due to permission issues or other restrictions.
I found around 20gb on the old drives, but it’s stored in the trash or bin folder. I can’t open the files or pictures inside. Can you know if there’s a way to recover them or restore the data? They’re taking up so much space that they shouldn’t be empty.
