Hello, one individual is planning to assemble a new PC and has several components in mind. I suggest DDR5 memory and RAM instead of the 13600k and Gigabyte B660M DS3H. I noticed this motherboard frequently in lists, so I need your opinion. My concern stems from another Gigabyte motherboard targeting AMD, which also carries the DS3H model. Is it just an AMD-specific choice, or can we assume similar VRM quality? Also, are there no Intel VRM tiers for boards from B660 series and above? Regarding cooling, I’m wondering if the Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition is sufficient to handle a 13600k processor. Your post got a bit confusing—could you clarify your points?

I wouldn't suggest this board for anything superior to a 12400 or even an i3. I'd pay more for a Gaming X model. Hyper 212 could work, but I'd opt for an AK620. Updated: DDR5 isn't worth the investment. Better go with a 13700K using DDR4 which should perform better. Edited November 25, 2022 by Pixelfie

DDR5 isn't necessarily a better choice because newer CPUs often handle faster memory more efficiently, making the upgrade less critical for performance gains.

I’m not very familiar with that board, but if you need the cheapest Intel DDR4 setup without any performance loss, the MSI Pro-A is the typical choice. It’s commonly priced around $159. If you have time, you can check out Buildzoids Intel motherboard videos—they’re detailed but a bit dry. Alternatively, I’ve personally reviewed all of them and found them helpful. For a starting point, the MSI Z690 Pro-A works well as an entry-level board. I usually opt for boards around $160 when paired with a CPU costing $300 or more, keeping things balanced.

The cost of DDR5 RAM and motherboards makes an i7 using DDR4 more affordable, offering significantly better performance compared to DDR5.

If someone has funds available, opting for a DDR5 compatible motherboard would indeed offer better long-term value by ensuring compatibility with future technologies.
