The series concluded with the final episode of HL2. Fans should not assume it will ever be released again. If it would have, the valve would have already let us know long ago.

Search for Gabe Newell's discussions on this topic. I don't remember the exact phrasing or the specific interview, but the response was about creating something truly innovative. Half Life 1 introduced new storytelling methods. HL2 built on that with better technology and realistic physics. HL3 would have added more environments, narrative depth, and physics, but nothing revolutionary. The main point was that a sequel wouldn't add anything new—it would just be another installment.

Ricochet 2 is likely at an intermediate stage of creation. It could still be in early testing, but progress seems steady. The idea that it was abandoned would carry more credibility if Episode 2 left such a significant unresolved issue. We also understand that the Portal universe was meant to connect, which adds context to its development path.

it won’t ever reach three since it can’t meet the expectations, and it’s likely to receive poor feedback.

The audience remained captivated by HL's journey and the intriguing twists in HL2:EP2. It was clear that HL2 wasn't just a game—it was a narrative that kept people hooked. The cliffhanger at the end left fans eager for more, highlighting how invested they were in the characters and story. The situation underscored the challenges developers faced, especially when trying to balance creative releases with audience expectations.

The game needs to be truly innovative because that level of quality is rare in other AAA titles. It's perfectly fine to launch a beautifully designed, story-driven single-player adventure.

GabeN shared his perspective on why he doesn’t want a typical sequel for Half Life. He believes it’s unique and doesn’t fit the usual mold.

I haven't found strong proof that Valve is developing HL3. That doesn't rule out the possibility entirely.
