I was chatting with friends about HL3 and was struck by the varied reactions to its release. Personally, I believe it will be released in one direction or another, but I wanted to gather everyone's thoughts.
They didn't even mention it wasn't true; no one there is interested in working on it. Probably they don't think they can meet the expectations, or they're holding off until Source Engine 2 is fully ready. I think they'll eventually want to create new titles for Counter Strike, TF2, Dota and similar games. They won't stick with the same engine forever. If HL3 ever releases, it's likely to be a launch title for Source Engine 3, or Valve might never make games again.
They began developing Richochet 2 on Source 2 quite some time ago, Gaben mentioned.
The fascination stems from its engaging storylines, memorable characters, and the challenge it presents. Players often find satisfaction in mastering its mechanics and exploring its rich world.
If you examine the timeline of Half-Life games, HL1 launched in 1998, HL2 in 2004, and HL3 is expected around 2016. The Half-Life of Tritium (H3) is also projected for 2017-2018. The tritium half-life is approximately 4500 days, placing a possible release window from March 5 to March 21, 2017. This information comes from a Reddit discussion about the release schedule.
