Hi everyone,

This problem has been bothering me for a long time without a clear fix.
Since September 2020, I’ve been using a Steelseries Arctis 9 Wireless headset. It includes a chat mix feature that lets the headset appear as two audio outputs on Windows: one for the Headset and another for the Headset Earphone. You can set Chat as your Communications Device and Game as your default device. There’s a dial on the headset to adjust the mix, reducing volume of one output when needed. The headset connects to the PC via a wireless USB dongle.

My issue is this: The headset functioned perfectly for about eight months, then I upgraded to an N7 B550. After that, my desktop no longer plays audio through both devices simultaneously. Other computers are working fine. It’s not the headset itself. I’ve even received an RMA from Steelseries, and even a brand new headset doesn’t work. I only use one device at a time. So I’m left wondering if it’s my computer that’s causing the problem.

Here’s what I have tried:
- Uninstalling Realtek Audio Drivers
- Reinstalling Realtek Audio Drivers
- Removing headset drivers
- Testing the wireless dongle on different USB ports
- Testing the headset and dongle on other computers (works there)
- Reinstalling Windows
- Updating BIOS
- Using Steelseries Engine and Steelseries GG software (no help)
- Switching to a new headset
- Adjusting audio quality settings from DVD to CD

The audio is fine when using just one device, but when both are set to CD, it becomes corrupted and produces a screech.

I’m stuck. Could anyone else have faced this problem or suggest a solution? Thanks!

I bought a USB-A to USB-C converter to connect the wireless receiver to the motherboard. It looks like the C port has sufficient bandwidth for both devices. I still think USB 3 should provide that capacity, but the headset is working fine now, so it doesn't matter.
