Solving GPU thermal throttling without overclocking
After the release of Horizon Zero Dawn, I became aware of how weak my GPU is (Gigabyte 970 G1) and decided to try overclocking. I discovered that under stress testing, my GPU becomes extremely hot until the maximum temperature is reached. Even when I enabled the Power/Temp link and increased the headroom up to 90°C, it still managed to handle it. This was without altering any other settings.
I also noticed a rise in core clock (35-40 MHz) when I raised the temperature threshold. Is this typical? I’m sorry if this has been answered multiple times before, but I’m having trouble finding information about a GPU running so hot without overclocking.
