Solved: GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition OC
Solved: GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition OC
Hi,
I own a gtx 1080 ti founders edition. We all know the cards are quite old, so I'm trying to extend its lifespan with some optimization. I added +160 to the core and +500 to the memory, along with a custom fan curve using msi afterburner. It didn't crash or show any issues in Unigine Heaven and Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. However, I'm worried about the long-term safety, especially regarding VRAM. Is this approach safe?
Core and Memory clock offers the simplest and most secure overclocking method. After I upgraded my card, I focused mainly on Core and Memory clock, along with the fan curve. This approach resulted in a 5-10 FPS boost in GPU-heavy games.
The main goal is to run the overclock for an extended period on your GPU. I believe it remains stable as long as there are no artifacts or crashes. If the voltage levels haven't changed since the last overclock, they should stay consistent.
Is VRAM OC even advantageous? I’ve learned that VRAM on Pascal Gen includes a feature called error correction, and others say if it doesn’t crash or produce artifacts, it suggests your VRAM OC isn’t stable. You might not notice any performance improvement, and pushing it too hard could actually cause issues.
Be honest, I haven't owned a 1080Ti before (maybe one day if I can afford it), so I can't really say for sure. And overclocking isn't very safe, so I don't want you to do anything that could damage your card. If you're comfortable with the amount of money you put into core and memory clock, I'd leave it alone. Someone more experienced can advise you on how much VRAM you can push.
