Software update resulting in reduced frame rates.
Software update resulting in reduced frame rates.
Hello,
I recently swapped out my old 2019 Intel Core i7 processor (which was five years old) for a Ryzen 5 2600, along with a new B450 motherboard and fresh memory.
I made this change because I play competitive games on several teams, and my previous hardware couldn't consistently maintain a stable 144Hz refresh rate—it frequently dipped to 130 or 120 frames per second. (I always use the minimum settings possible to maximize my frame output.) However, after this upgrade, I've experienced significantly poorer performance.
Specifically in Overwatch, my frame rate decreases noticeably over time; it begins at 300 fps but drops to 200 within the initial minute, and by the fifth, I'm struggling to sustain 144hz, often falling to 30 and 60 fps. Additionally, I’ve occasionally encountered sudden, simultaneous freezes in both my frame rate and audio output. Previously, I routinely achieved approximately 90 fps in Black Ops 4, but now I struggle to maintain even 30 fps, despite using reduced and optimized settings.
I've already attempted the following troubleshooting steps:
* Updating my BIOS
* Updating my graphics card drivers
* XMP profiles causing system crashes (particularly with the default setting)
* Disk defragmentation
* Disabling XBOX DVR recording
* Updating Windows (which I regularly check for new updates)
* Switching to the "Ultimate Performance" power plan
Here’s a breakdown of my system specifications:
* Windows 10 64-bit version 1809 (Build 1776.168)
* 600W Corsair Power Supply
* NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
* Ryzen 5 2600
* CORSAIR Vengeance RGB 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3000MHz
* GIGABYTE B450 AORUS PRO WIFI
* 222GB Solid State Drive with 21GB free space
* Connected via Fiber Optics, achieving an average download speed of 923Mbps
* Ryzen core clock speeds averaging around 3500 MHz
* RAM operating at (DRAM speed, half of its rated speed) 1064.1 MHz
* No overheating detected in any of my components
Have you verified the temperatures within your computer’s components? When replacing motherboards, did you perform a fresh installation of Windows? I'm questioning whether the processor upgrade provided a beneficial increase in performance; did you also update your graphics card? Although the Ryzen 5 is more current and possesses greater speed in certain tasks, the i7, even from a previous generation, remains a reasonably powerful central processing unit.
