Software to restore good quality images from a large collection.
I own a WIN20 computer with three external drives. After installing the WIN 120 update from my PC and using my covery disk, many of my TBs became corrupted. This means filenames are lost, images aren’t displaying or show "x". The files themselves appear to be intact. My backup on the hard drives also has these issues.
Note: Other non-image files, such as docs, xls, pds, and databases, are experiencing similar problems.
I bought Stellar Picture recover, which seems to work well for images but has a major issue. It only scans hard drives and takes 3-6 hours per drive, returning a full drive filled with various files. Getting images requires "recovering" them from a large folder labeled "RX", which is as big as a hard drive. This leads to another scan of the drive for images, usually taking several more hours. If I could tell Stellar to focus on image folders, it would cut the total scan time by 75%. With at least three large external drives, I could save over 30 hours of scanning time.
I contacted their support and after hours on the phone, they confirmed there’s no workaround for this problem.
Could you find another program that can restore images while allowing me to specify folders instead of entire hard drives? Thanks in advance.
Do you mean Windows 10? Not clear what Win 120 is. Please clarify.
If you have saved files that you can reach and the procedure is functioning, the duration doesn't matter. By the moment you discover a marginally quicker method, you'll have invested so much time that you might have simply pursued the slower option initially.
PhotoRec is a tool that operates via the command line and has proven highly effective for recovering images and files. It is also open source.
Thank you for the recommendation. I will check the information. RDG
The time gap might be around 50 hours per week, lasting a month or longer. I own between one and two million images. After my crash and trying to restore them using backups, about half are damaged. With Stellar’s testing, I’m recovering most of the corrupted files. The issue is that images can only be scanned from entire hard drives (six in total), which takes about five hours to load the driver, and then another three or more hours to sort through the results and clean up databases, spreadsheets, PDFs, etc. (note: I’ll handle those later with another service).
I’m searching for a program that can RECOVER corrupt images by scanning them from existing folders, not from scattered files like databases, spreadsheets, documents, or PDFs.
Thanks. rdg
