Hi All,

I’m facing an unusual problem that hasn’t shown up much on Google, except in a Reddit thread mentioning "zombie" GPUs. Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

I work as an IT professional and am familiar with both hardware and software (network engineer).

Issue:
- Turning off my PC via shutdown causes the next boot to reject the GPU driver, leading to a BSOD with an invalid error code (0xa0000001).
- After rebooting from this state, the driver loads as XTX.
- If I manage to enter the OS before the BSOD, I see it disabled in Device Manager; re-enabling always triggers the BSOD.
- Once inside the OS, using my 7900xtx works fine and the system is stable.

What I’ve checked:
- Updated DDU to both new and old versions
- Fresh Windows installation (this time)
- Atlas OS
- Linux (no driver issues, though some games aren’t supported)
- Crash dump: AMDKFdag.sys not installed (just a red herring; fixing the path won’t help)
- RAM & HDD checks
- Cable connections
- Reinstalling chipset drivers
- Replacing RAM with known good units

What I’m trying but can’t:
- Placing the GPU in a stable system (no access to another PC)
- Using a known good Nvidia GPU in my current setup (no access to another GPU)

System specs:
- CPU: R9 7950x
- CPU cooler: NZXT Kraken
- Motherboard: Asus X670E-F
- RAM: G-Skill 2x16GB 6800MHz (EXPO enabled)
- SSD/HDD: RAID 0 2xCorrsair 2TB
- GPU: Nitro+ 7900xtx (Driver version 25.9.2, latest)
- PSU: 1000w Corsair
- Chassis: NZXT Flow
- OS: W11 10.0.26100
- Monitor: ASUS PG43U

If you have any suggestions or recommendations on what to check next, I’d really appreciate it.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
SSD/HDD: RAID 0 2xCorrsair 2TB
What is the purpose of using RAID0? Are there specific models for the Corsair SSDs?
Motherboard: Asus X670E-F
Current BIOS version? Are the iGPUs turned off in BIOS? If enabled, turn them off and use DDU to remove all GPU drivers (Intel, Nvidia, AMD) in Safe Mode. Install the newest driver manually via an elevated command.
RAM: G-Skill 2x16GB 6800Mhz (EXPO enabled)
Do you have a link to this RAM kit?
Power Supply: 1000w Corsair
Corsair is the manufacturer of the unit, and the 1000W indicates its advertised power rating. Could you tell us the model number? If this device was previously used in an older build, please mention its age and what it was running before.
You are experiencing a BSoD message; we will need to examine your .dmp files. Upload them to a service similar to DropBox, then share a link for our reference in this thread.

SSD/HDD: RAID 0 2xCorrsair 2TB
I have two drives, I wanted them as one continuous volume. This is from my last windows install and is not contributing to the problem, i have run these drives separately and now part of a RAID. The data is non-volatile so am happy with the risks of losing one of the drives.
Motherboard: Asus X670E-F
Bios is latest version (3205) This issue has persisted across multiple BIOS versions.
I have tried booting both with it enabled and disabled, but I also don't think the issue lies with the APU I believe this is a red herring
Ram: G-Skill 2x16GB 6800Mhz
Sorry it's 6400Mhz, I have verified that this works with both the GPU, MOBO and processor
PSU: 1000w Corsair
it's an RM1000X, I don't think the issue is power related as I experience no stability issues or crashes when the driver loads in/ the XTX is available in device manager.
It is less than 2 years old, brand new.
Dump file
it wont let me post this link, I will try again in another post
A sneak peek for you

I also think that this is a red herring, as the crashes are occurring due to the driver not loading correctly.
Thank you for taking the time to look into it, if you have anymore questions please fire away, I have been troubleshooting this for months, and just hoping that some one has seen this issue before.
I am flitting between the idea of it being GPU or Chipset issues, but am at a loss of how to narrow this down after several reinstalls of the drivers.

I've figured it out after a long time trying to fix it.
In short, just throw away any Asus DP cables.
