Hey everyone, I'm looking for an encryption tool that can secure specific folders on different hard drives. I've heard about Trucrypt, but I know it has some security issues lately. Are there any open-source options that let me protect just certain files? Also, I have a few questions: If I encrypt a drive with Trucrypt and it crashes, can I recover the data after reinstalling the OS and the software? What if I only encrypt a folder instead? Will the encrypted file disappear when I reinstall the system? Can I transfer the encrypted folder to another device and decrypt it there? Any advice would be really helpful. Thanks!

What happened with Truecrypt looks really shady, it has been known as one of the safest applications to use. When the site was taken down they recommended to use bitlocker, bitlocker is what Windows Enterprise has built in and almost definitely has NSA back doors. Here's a link to an article + download https://www.grc.com/misc/truecrypt/truecrypt.htm it's hard to know what to trust now, I really don't trust anything anymore lol. 1. Yes. 2. No you will not lose the data as long as the folder is on another hard drive. 3. Yes, you can email the encrypted file. Also if you really want to be safe use a 20+ character password even if it's something like I do not like to eat spoiled meat in the summer because 2000 is a number. Hope this helps!

Check if there are other tools besides Trucrypt you should consider. I tried AxCrypt but it doesn’t fully protect against deletions or movements. You might want alternatives that also block file removal. Passphrases work well, thanks for asking!

AxCrypt seems acceptable, though I’m unsure about better options.
