OBS isn't useful for capturing without Intel's QuickSync. PlayClaw is a better alternative.
I also don’t own a high-end machine. I just have a Sandy Bridge i3 and a mediocre GT 440, so the effect is really small—mostly changes around 10 FPS.
I've tried OBS and fraps before, but I recently switched to MSI Afterburner and prefer it more. It didn't always give me top picture quality with OBS—my CPU would get unstable during a game (like Mass Effect 3). MSI Afterburner performed better in some cases, though there was a slight delay that wasn’t too bothersome. The recorded video turned out great!
