You can manage 3-pin and 4-pin fans using Fan Xpert on a ROG board. Without one, it seems limited to 4-pin fans—possibly SpeedFan works too, or check Corsair options.

Argus monitor works well, though it isn't free. If you prefer learning without Windows 8.1, Speedfan is useful but less intuitive. For better control, consider using your BIOS for CPU fan settings. Make sure your case fans are 4-pin PWM compatible to run these programs.

Unfortunately, Gigabytes' software isn't reliable and their boards don't work with Speedfan. The best solution is to adjust the CPU fan headers in the BIOS and use splitters to link all fans to them.

Using three-pin fans is common, with plenty of options to choose from. A MOB that allows fan control could be helpful. Consider trying the speed fan program—it’s a solid choice. Also check out the guide "Control Your Computer's Fan Speeds for Better Performance" for extra tips.
