I need a few more details about your setup. I'm trying to buy a NAS and want all my files accessible across different devices. I need a way to convert everything into a universal format so it works on any system. Ideally, it should run smoothly whether on the NAS itself or on your main PC. No budget restrictions aside from preserving file integrity. Let me know if you have specific software in mind.

Plex is impressive. It may run slower on a Synology NAS, but it functions and works well for two or fewer devices with lower resolution files. For better performance, consider using it on a regular computer to access your shared folders.
