Here are some user-friendly, lightweight clip cutting tools I've worked with:
- **CutSnap** – Simple interface, great for quick jobs.
- **ClipCut Pro** – Lightweight with fast performance.
- **PaperCut** – Easy to navigate, perfect for beginners.

Thank you!

the movie maker's trim cutting tool functions well and the free vegas pro 12 is available if you wish to invest, it's an excellent video editor.

I have Vegas Pro but I’m looking for something lighter. Maybe Windows Movie Maker is a better fit. Does it include with Windows 8? I can’t locate it. Edit: I downloaded it from Windows Essentials.

If you already have Vegas Pro, I’d strongly recommend Vegas Movie Studio 13. It offers the same interface and controls, but as a lighter, more compact version at a much lower price. I think it’s around $50 on Steam, though it’s often on sale. A few friends have tried it and found it performs very well.

I struggle to accept its weight, so I'll just use Movie Maker ;P Thanks!

You're confused about why you'd choose a basic tool like Movie Maker over a powerful software such as Vegas Movie Studio. It seems you're questioning the value of quality in this situation.

Looking for a lightweight tool with an easy-to-use cut function for low-res recordings. Sony Vegas is quite bulky, so I can achieve similar results with both options, just a bit quicker and simpler using Movie Maker. With Vegas, I’d need to adjust my timeline, preview settings, and render configurations. This isn’t about editing a high-end movie, just trimming short clips from low-quality game footage. I get your point, but sometimes the most expensive tool isn’t the best fit for the task.

Anyone familiar with video work would understand proper encoding. I expect you're not relying on a standard .wmv template in Movie Maker. Two: The interface works fine without changes and fits my workflow. I spend most of my time closing the source monitor and levels panel, which are both optional. Three: Unlike Windows Movie Maker, Vegas supports GPU acceleration, letting you render a minute in half a minute. Four: Sony Vegas, Pro, or Movie Studio aren't heavy—simple and straightforward, unlike complex suites like Premiere Pro or After Effects. The choice of Movie Maker is hardly a strength.
