Would you like a tool that stays active in the system tray? It could launch automatically when you open Steam and stop the recording once you finish playing. This would save you from repeatedly remembering to start and end the process.

You won't get automatic handling. For a Nvidia graphics card, you can use Nvidia Shadowplay to easily start and stop recording.

Hotkeys are activated specifically for this purpose. Most recording programs allow naming by start and end times. If the game offers demo recording, that would be ideal.

Use D3DGear recording tool, it auto-starts on Windows login. Press a key to begin and pause recording.

I follow Win10's Xbox DVR setup as discussed by xAcid9. Now I rely on OBS for recording, which offers more customization options. It seems the Xbox DVR is leading to significant memory issues. The main drawback of OBS is that it doesn't run independently; you can tweak quality and settings to match your storage limits.

ShadowPlay supports recording for up to 20 minutes, but it needs an Nvidia graphics card. I stopped using ShadowPlay a while back because OBS accomplishes the same function more effectively with its replay buffer.
