A few years back I bought a WD MyBook external drive to back up some data folders. Sadly, the included backup software is no longer supported and isn't functioning properly. After trying the replacement (Acronis) and seeing it crash when handling photos, I removed it.

I'm searching for a straightforward backup app that runs daily and keeps my external hard drive updated. To be honest, I'm not very experienced in this field, so I'm unsure whether incremental, differential, or other methods are best.

Thanks for your assistance.

Perfect Backup functions as a standard backup method for regular folders, allowing straightforward restoration without the software. FreeFileSync offers a customizable file sync and mirror application.

I also rely on Bvckup2 for many tasks since it's compact and performs delta copies—reviewing and updating only the modified sections.

Thank you for the reply. I believe you're talking about Perfect Backup, the free open source version?

Nope, Bvckup 2.
Bvckup 2 | Quick easy backup
Fast backup solution for Windows
bvckup2.com
Many choices exist, like Macrium Reflect which is phasing out its free version. I prefer minimal software to handle tasks. Bvckup 2 offers very few added features and I rely on it to save important data from my main PC to my media server and backup server each morning at 6 AM.

Oh, ok. I am sort of looking for something similar, but easy to configure so that it's set up and forget. Like I noted earlier, I really don't want to be an expert at this.....thanks

The majority of suggested programs currently offer a free option or at least a trial period. To determine what suits you best, it's best to test them yourself!
