The board was faulty since I was able to shift a few pins that matched the scorch mark.

Here’s a brief summary: I cleaned the processor socket and found a cloth stuck inside. I tried the new CPU in that socket to check compatibility. The socket didn’t work, and the CPU showed signs of damage on the back. I ordered a new motherboard and am currently using my old CPU. In the photos, I marked the damaged pin and believe the harm was on a VCC pad. Some people advise against trying it, while others think a damaged VCC pad might be okay but could require higher voltage elsewhere. The cyan-colored box part is marked as an error—it should be an L shape, not a T shape. The image quality isn’t clear enough to confirm the damage.

I’d probably wipe it down with isopropyl alcohol before attempting any work, though I’m sure it’ll be okay. A useful takeaway: avoid cleaning a CPU socket unless the chip is present. I once damaged a socket trying to remove some thermal paste, but now I’m being more careful.

Certainly, even with a small missing gold pad, the isopropyl alcohol might harm the internal CPU. Cleaning it helps remove contaminants that could affect performance.

You can immerse components like GPUs or motherboards in an ultrasonic cleaner filled with it, ensuring at least 90% concentration. Avoid using 70% as it contains more water. Allow the solution to dry or evaporate within a few minutes before use. I store a 91% bottle for my electronics cleaning.

If not, and you install it on a new board with high resistance, you might end up swapping parts—because then you’ll need a CPU and another board. If cleaned well, it’s a win, you stay ahead without extra replacements.
