You're considering upgrading your I7-3820 CPU. Since it's a solid 4-core, 4-thread chip, you likely won't need a new CPU unless you're aiming for significant performance gains. For most users, sticking with the same motherboard, RAM, and possibly a mid-range processor would suffice. A full overhaul is usually only necessary if you want to push performance beyond current limits.

Consider the i7-3930K, 3960X, or 3970X options. Avoid the 3970X as its price reflects its status as a premium item, whereas the others can be overclocked to similar performance levels.

For heavy multithreading tasks, yes. For mainly gaming and browsing, no.

Consider upgrading to a new CPU. The Ryzen 5 3600 offers significantly better performance compared to most available options while being much more affordable. It consumes only a third of the power and lacks many security vulnerabilities.

I need the processor I’d like to purchase. As an Archetecture student, I use Lumion, Twinmotion, Revit, Photoshop, and other tools that would gain from more cores. Currently, my setup is limited by a GTX 750 with 2GB memory, which bottlenecks my CPU. Once I upgrade to something like the RX 580 8GB or an 1650Super 4GB, I’ll be able to save for both motherboard and CPU upgrades at the same time—something I hadn’t thought possible before. Thanks for your response and support!

Choose a 580 or 1660. The 1650 Super struggles due to limited VRAM and modest memory interface. In certain production tasks it performs impressively.

Thanks for your input. I’m leaning toward the 580 due to budget constraints. The 1660 seems appealing, but in Argentina the price gap between these models is about 100 USD, and the market is quite volatile. I’d prefer to secure it soon. Over the past few days, the RX 580 dropped from 200 USD to 220 USD while the 1660 fell from 300 to 320. In pesos, 20 USD equals roughly 2400 pesos—about two days’ worth of expenses for a decent minimum wage job. I apologize for sharing all this detail, but your feedback is really helpful!
