If you're planning to swap your board, the LGA1700 model works well. Check for discounts on any chips from the 12th, 13th, or 14th generation. Each generation offers more cache and extra E-cores, though quality remains high. I own an i5 12600KF which was available for $130. If you prefer not to replace the board entirely, opt for an X3D chip or the 12/16c variants if you need additional cores. To tackle the VRM temperature issue, purchase a few 40mm fans and direct them toward the VRM heatsink and the CPU socket above. Alternatively, enable ECO mode on the chip—typically around 65W for the higher-end models. You'll still achieve better multicore performance than a chip with fewer cores, even under power constraints.

I plan to upgrade my board based on what I've researched so far. The VRM thermal throttling issues with the 5900x and 5950x boards are mainly in non-gaming tasks like 3D modeling, rendering, and animation. I found that only one board in my country is compatible—BTF board with a deepcool CB360, which uses 1700 DDR4 with PCIe 5. Other boards are DDR5 with PCIe 5, all from ASUS TUF models. I’m considering upgrading to an i9 processor next year or switching to DDR5 with the same CPU for better performance. I’m not sure what Intel did, but this is my main motivation for choosing this platform.

To move to DDR5 you'd have to replace the existing motherboard, which isn't a good deal. It's smarter to wait for AM5 instead. I think those VRMs slow down when the 65W chip is used (the one in ECO mode).

I wasn't aware of that before. I'll look it over and see, but I might need to get another board for my friend now since this one is affordable.

It makes sense to explore available discounts and promotions. If you're planning a switch to Intel, consider an i7 12700 or higher and add more RAM, as DDR4 is significantly more affordable than DDR5.
