So what’s the deal with DDR5 &XMP?
My motherboard from 2016 is finally being sent away. It’s time to assemble a computer! (Oh no, what a disappointment…) I’ve heard concerns about using all four RAM slots with DDR5. For style, I was considering two pairs of Corsair Dominator Titanium 32GB (2x16GB) at 6400MHz CL32. (I’m aware there are better options.) What’s the real problem, though? Some say it only becomes an issue after reaching over 700Mhz?
It doesn’t function properly. Initially, it’s blending memory data, though matching two 6400 CL32 units might be similar—it’s not certain—and this can cause compatibility problems. Another concern is the training methods for four DIMMs aren’t as strong as those for two, mainly because less effort has gone into them and each stick has a longer trace path. It may work if you’re experienced with troubleshooting XMP settings, especially since DDR5 adds more complexity. If you’re unsure, it’s best to avoid this unless you’re confident. You could either accept the design flaws, opt for a two-DIMM board for better performance, or rely on manufacturers releasing improved RGB sticks. Personally, extra DIMM slots aren’t ideal on most DDR5 boards and often just create unnecessary issues.
