You're dealing with a suspicious situation involving your father's laptop. It seems like a trojan virus might be present, causing it to lock him out and prompting him to contact Cloudyne Technologies. Although the company appears legitimate, there are red flags. It's wise to seek advice from someone familiar with cybersecurity or tech support. Consider verifying the legitimacy of the company through official channels before taking any action.

This inquiry concerns the legitimacy of Cloudyne Tech and whether it warrants further investigation. It’s important to assess the situation carefully before taking any action.

It seems the FBI won’t be interested in this. Clean the drive, reinstall what’s necessary, and proceed.

It seems his computer is functioning properly, and I'm starting a virus scan right now. It's possible I won't need to reinstall anything.

It's just a scam to get you to give them money/personal information. The virus is trying to appear as a real company in order to fool you. No legitimate company is going to solicit your business by holding your device hostage. You're certainly free to notify law enforcement but there's not really a whole lot they can do. I would highly recommend wiping the drive just in case. You could be lulled into a false sense of security.

Consider applying a system restore point or utilizing the pre-saved system image you created.

I would skip using a system restore point, though a standalone, unconnected system image works too.

They have a really poor website. The companies they've partnered with seem questionable. Lol, spoiler alert!
