Smoke coming from the PC
I put a PCIe to m.2 Nvme card with a Kingston 1tb inside. When I turned the computer on, smoke came out and there were burn marks on three separate pins on the adapter. The machine still smells like it burned but it starts now. Is it safe to use? Also, I unplugged the adapter.
If the damage occurs on the adapter rather than the main board, it's secure. Check thoroughly at least three times for any gaps or issues and be prepared to replace the PSU if needed.
Are you checking for burn marks or those small tubes that might have burst?
Did you examine the PCIe connector closely? Are there any misaligned or damaged pins?
Seconded; if everything appears fine, replace that adapter—there could be a wiring issue or incorrect placement on the PCB.
Some items aren't visible but aren't linking together. The others on my PCIe x16 1.0 (untouched) are showing up correctly.
