Small ITX module featuring built-in CPU
Hi there, welcome to the PC building scene! I’m just starting out and mostly use prebuilt systems. I was trying to update my Minisforum PC BIOS and came across something called MoDT — it’s a mini-ITX MOBO with an integrated CPU, which seems like a laptop CPU but everything else is upgradable. The product link is here: https://store.minisforum.com/products/mi...bd790i-x3d. It has an AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D, but it uses a PCIe 5.0x16 slot. My concern is whether it’s worth it since the CPU can’t be upgraded. Thanks for sharing!
The 7800X3D motherboard costs around $550. It’s not necessary unless you need a particular design.
It varies based on your intentions. Do you need the full budget for the entire system? A 7945hx3d is a cost-effective chip but also works as a laptop, making it slower compared to many desktops. It offers plenty of cores, but if you don’t require them, it’s a waste of funds. No. The 7800x3d performs better in gaming. From a gaming perspective, the 7945x3d is typically similar to a Ryzen 7700. While the x3d cache can push performance higher occasionally, it sometimes underperforms. Also, keep in mind that PCIe lanes are more limited on this board than on desktops, which can impact performance. The RAM speed also matters—DRD5 DDR5 is pricier and runs slower, hurting overall speed. Prices aren’t great either; a 7800x3d with a decent board can be found for less and still offers strong gaming results. However, the multi-core advantage of the 7945hx is clear. Overall, it’s a solid choice, but if you’re building a desktop, go with more suitable components. Avoid it unless you want a restrictive, expensive option. Budget-wise, a cheaper CPU and better parts might be smarter.
I considered setting up an ITX system since there isn’t much room and even a mid-tower would be too large. I’ll keep it casual—no intense strategy games like Civilization VI. My main purpose will be work, mainly running virtual machines. I’ve also heard the TDP is 100W, which should give a solid performance boost. It shouldn’t cause any GPU issues because it has a full PCIe 5.0x16 slot.
