Discovered an old ASUS P7P55D-E once, originally from a workstation. I checked its functionality and noticed several oddities. It seems the 14-phase VRM was unnecessary for CPUs that usually handled less power. The DIMM slots are arranged differently, only fitting on one side. There’s an integrated Firewire400 port included. Half of the 8-pin power connectors is protected by a removable silicone cover. These questions kept coming up in my mind. Thanks for any advice. I’ll add pictures later since uploading them here isn’t working.

The system is built for high performance with plenty of voltage options. Not all setups use the 8-pin EPS connector, and the cover helps keep the empty port safe. The Firewire interface was standard at the time and still works today. It uses just one memory slot but supports both read and write. The orientation of the slots is correct. Got more puzzles?

Thanks in advance. It's helpful to understand these details. I've got several DDR3 boards with reversed DIMM slots, which is pretty interesting.

This board offers strong overclocking potential and is well-suited for high-performance builds. The Nehalem i7 model tends to draw a lot of power during overclocking. For easier DIMM replacement, Asus provides a spring clip on the bottom side; it still clicks when pushed in, but you just need to unclip the top and pull out. Firewire was used for external storage and cameras during the board's release, though the interface didn't last long. The 8-pin connector is half of what was common at the time, making it more compatible with older PSUs that only had 4-pin connectors.

It's fascinating to discover this board in a workstation equipped with an i5 660. It seems like such a compelling setup at the time.

Oh my, that looks so cool. Modern boards are sick, but some of these are just downright amazing and i dont think there even is any manufacturer right now offering custom PCB colors. Just imagine like a totally white or pink mainboard, i would love that. sadly i have only started to really get into pc stuff about the time when ryzen 3000 dropped. i have so much catching up to do because I love this world of tech and i really greatly appreciate you showing me such things, they are amazing. i dont recall where it was, but i could sweat that i have heard of a dual platform mainboard once. might have just been 2 separate mainboards still fused together, but i think there once was something like that. might have been a thread in /g/, i am really not sure anymore
