Slower system on a basic computer.
Hello, I’ve experienced some performance problems with my PC during the past year or so. Around the time I upgraded my keyboard, mouse, and headset (though I’m not sure if those changes affected the issue), frame rates in games dropped noticeably—from 80-120 FPS to 30-60 FPS. At the same time, the GPU temperature while playing decreased, going from a peak of about 75-76°C to around 67°C now. Despite my attempts to fix it, I haven’t seen any improvement and am unsure what might be causing the problem. Here are my system details: Mobo: Asrock B450 Pro4 CPU: Ryzen 3 3200G (no GPU acceleration), GPU: GTX 1660 Super, RAM: 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance, DDR4, PSU: Corsair 450W 80 Plus Bronze, SSD: Crucial MX500 500GB, cooler: AMD Stock, OS: Windows 10 Home. Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated as I’ve struggled with this for a long time. Thank you.
Checking your CPU and GPU performance during games. A minimal GPU load might indicate a CPU constraint at times. Your GPU activity while gaming is also important, and enabling V-Sync could cap your frame rate to 60 FPS on a 60Hz display.
Running a benchmark can yield valuable data. Some free options worth considering include open-source tools and community-driven platforms.
Play the usual games and monitor the temps with HwInfo. Use Task Manager to see CPU/GPU usage while the game runs—turn off v-sync if it’s on. Find out which game gives 30-60 FPS, your settings, and the resolution you’re using.
I used Hwinfo and Task Manager on two monitors to monitor GPU and CPU temperatures during gameplay. Vsync and GSync were turned off, all at 1080p resolution. Here’s the summary of the results:
- Battlefield 2042 (low settings) – Rush mode (32 players): CPU temp 61-62°C, usage 100%, GPU temp 66-67°C, usage 1-5%
- Conquest mode (128 players): CPU temp 60°C, usage 100%, GPU temp 60-64°C, usage 1-3%
- Warzone 2 (mostly high settings): CPU temp 62-63°C, usage 92-95%, GPU temp 72-75°C, usage 1%
Based on the information shared, it seems you're experiencing a CPU bottleneck despite having a GPU usage issue. Your temperatures are normal. Others might review this if they disagree, but your frame rates match expectations. As more players join, CPU demand increases. Your 4/4 configuration isn't optimal for such demanding scenarios.
Remember when I talked about FPS? That referred to old games like Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Fortnite. I can share the FPS numbers from those titles if you'd like. Thanks for clarifying!
