Slower internet connections on specific sites when using a PC, not a Mac.
Hi guys, I've never come across this type of thing before and I'm about out of ideas, so I hope you guys can help. PC in question: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/andrewsciba/saved/KQHn6h -- I connect to a NAS with the QNAP network card Internet: 240/40 mpbs. Wired connection. -- I have two ISP connections set as transparent bridge going into a switch into -- ISP says it's not on their end Problem: Slow download speeds (a 26 mbps wall), but only on Google Drive, Frame.io, WeTransfer, Dropbox. -- Other websites or apps like Steam download at an expected higher speed -- Download speeds from these websites are slow in Windows safe mode and with a VPN -- Plugging the same cat7 cable into my Macbook Pro via dongle allows downloads from these websites at around 144mbps -- Drivers are updated. Windows 10 Pro 22H2 19045.2846 -- Mobo has two ethernet connections that each yield the same result -- Uninstalled anti-virus and disabled windows defender completely -- Virus scan comes back clean Like I said, I'm out of my own ideas. Any from your guys? Thanks!
It might be the network card, a slow SSD, or another component in the background consuming more data.
It seems the current setup might not be ideal. What DNS servers are you connecting to? I’m using Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1/1.0.0.1, and Google would also be a viable option.
Your router might restrict particular ports or data flows for certain websites or applications. Some models offer sophisticated options such as Quality of Service configurations or port forwarding guidelines that can affect how your network operates
It might be related to a software problem. In the past, my PC used motherboard utilities that included a network manager—though I can't recall the exact brand of the motherboard. I turned it on because I thought it would help. At first everything worked well, but as I added more services like Steam, Origin, and Battle.net, my internet speed gradually decreased to low levels. Eventually, I found the network manager again (I didn’t remember enabling it) and when I disabled it, my speed returned completely, and all related issues disappeared.
