So, here is a real head scratcher... I noticed a few days ago after a system restart that it took a great deal longer to get into the windows environment than normal. What usually took 30 seconds took about 2 minutes. Then, when I started opening programs they took a tremendously long time to open (a certain 2018 AAA game used to open in about half a minute, but now was taking closer to 4 minutes). I tried the same thing with several other substantial programs and they also took much longer to open. All of these are on my SSD. I then tried transferring a 800 meg file from my NAS box and it took mere seconds, showing 120 MB per second. So, I ran a few benchmarks, here they are (including a Memory benchmark). The last two (the random read and the linear read look... troubling.
Added a new user to the system and verified their connection speed.
You set up another admin account after testing three programs. I rebooted before starting the original account and the new one (not sure if they share RAM). Timing showed: Program A took 0:22 then 0:27, Program B 1:01 then 0:59, Program C 2:37 then 2:20. No improvement observed.
I contacted Kingston and they advised me to erase the drive and restart it. Since their software didn’t work, I used the Windows installer’s command prompt to wipe and repartition before reinstalling. It was a frustrating process, but I’m back to normal performance.
