Slow performance on Netgear router. (The story keeps going)
You're experiencing slower-than-expected internet speeds despite a 500Mbps plan. The issue might be related to network configuration or interference. After testing with the default router, you noticed speeds jump significantly when using a different router. It seems the problem could be with the setup or hardware rather than the game servers themselves. Consider checking for interference, updating firmware, or contacting support for further assistance.
These speed findings come from the same testing platform. Were these evaluations performed using the router directly connected? Do you really need wireless connectivity? I understand your irritation, but it’s important to stay open to the assessment here. This is especially crucial when you’re beginning a new discussion, as many questions will arise again. If you decide to ignore only the advice that aligns with your preferences, you’re free to do so. However, we won’t be able to provide much support, and the situation will keep repeating. Ultimately, you’ll face the same issue and feel even more frustrated. I urge you to remain patient and engage with the process. Did your X6 receive the newest firmware version? I own an X6 too, so double-check that all unnecessary features from Netgear—like parental controls and security packages—are turned off. Enabling security can slow you down because the router must inspect every packet.
Yes, the situation was explained to me. The modem works well with hard wiring, achieving speeds of 25-30MB/second to the router and 50-60MB/second to the computer. The issue stemmed from compatibility with newer router firmware, as most modern routers don't support Docsis 3.1. The solution was using a router that supports Docsis 3.0, which would provide full performance. Updated on April 17, 2020 by 6KingSlayer9.
I've done everything possible. I've performed a hard reset and disabled all features that might be causing the issue. I reached out to Netgear multiple times, but they seem uninformed.
The speed test indicates the network is functioning properly, so likely not a hardware problem with the Netgear router. Consistent performance across multiple game servers suggests the issue isn<|pad|>, possibly due to QoS settings on your router reducing game traffic. You mentioned disabling those settings, but I’m not sure if that resolved it. Others might have different solutions.
He mentioned that most current routers don’t support DOCSIS 3.1, only 3.0. This means the router he installed is future-proof for 3.1, giving full speed. It seems his setup works well. If this applies to you, you can stick with it unless you need newer features.
Oh, wait! So your SpeedTest.net results reflect what you're supposed to be getting from your ISP but your game server speed tests are slower? This technology has to do with the connection between your ISP and modem, not your router. That fiber signal (or any other signal from your ISP for that matter) is then converted to electrical signals that can be carried over ethernet to your own router and vice versa. What I think you and your friend are getting confused about are the terms "modem", "router" and "gateway". Your ISP supplied you with a gateway device that supports DOCSIS 3.1. Gateways are a combination of a modem, router and sometimes a wireless access point in a single device. A simple modem only allows 1 device to connect to your ISP; you have to add a router to be able to share that connection with more than 1 device in your home. So, I don't think this has anything to do with your problem.
