Slow Network Speeds
Slow Network Speeds
Hello, I'm trying to set up a home network with several devices. I have two Cisco E1200 switches, some home adapters for direct TV, and a 3com switch I bought for $15. In my basement, a friend and I are planning to connect everything to the 3com switch. Currently, when using the connected home adapter or another router, I only get about 5mbps. However, when I connect directly to the router (which feeds from the switch), I see the expected speeds—25mbps up and 5 Mbps down. I assumed the switch might be the problem, but testing with a Linksys SE1500 gave me the same results. It's becoming frustrating because I need to chain routers just to add more Ethernet connections. Any suggestions?
It seems you're dealing with a network setup that isn't fully understood. You might want to connect the switch directly to the router using a standard Ethernet cable, or consider having a professional install it in your basement.
