Slow latop
Slow latop
I’m considering upgrading the hard drive on this old laptop. It has an i7 4270hq and 960MB RAM, though it’s slow sometimes. I’m pretty sure the problem isn’t the hardware itself but likely the need to swap out the HDD for an M.2 drive. It would be helpful to hear some advice before investing in an SSD just in case it’s not worth the effort.
SATA SSD is likely missing an M.2 port for an M.2 drive. These SSDs offer significant improvements over traditional HDDs, providing faster performance, cooler operation, and extended battery life. The i7 4270hq remains a solid choice for laptops. Increasing RAM could help, though 8GB should suffice.
I earn a solid income on Marketplace by exchanging HDDs for SSDs. ADATA 120GB costs $20 if you're on a tight budget and rely on the cloud for most of your storage.
I don’t think 8GB is usable at all right now, unless you’re running Windows XP or 7. If you have a powerful work PC and a resource-heavy tool like Tanium, add another stick (aim for 16GB) and replace the HDD with a SATA SSD.
If performance remains insufficient, consider alternatives built around Chromium OS.
