Any Ethernet cable—Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a—can handle up to 2.5 Gbps (2500 Mbps) or higher, provided the connections are set up properly at each end. To achieve 1000 Mbps, every part in the setup needs to be able to deliver that speed; both the Ethernet card and the cable must meet the requirement. The connector on the switch, modem, or device you received from the ISP should also support 1000 Mbps.

Thanks, I'll attempt all of this the next day upon returning home. Regarding the router's limit, I tested it with another PC using a Cat 5a cable and confirmed the 800Mbps performance. Tomorrow I'll review that article, as I'm running Windows.

Did you test another cable on the affected PC in the router port that seems fine with the other one? Slightly weaker connections might affect certain network cards, though others remain stable, often leading to a drop to 100Mbit.
