Hello everyone, I have a new Wi-Fi dongle for my desktop using a D-Link DW182. It works fine overall, but the upload speed is only about a quarter of what it should be. The bandwidth stays around 585MB or 650MB, which should be sufficient for reaching 30Mbps as measured with my phone in the same area. I’ve updated the drivers and also tried another dongle (Fritz AC860), which had the same issue. I’ve reinstalled Windows 10 to rule out system-related problems, but the issue persists. Could it be a compatibility problem with the router or Windows?

Install a Linux live environment and verify if the issue persists there as well.

You can check for consistent speed by monitoring system performance metrics like CPU usage, memory utilization, and disk I/O over time. Tools such as `top`, `htop`, or `vmstat` can help track these values.

Access speedtest.net to monitor internet performance, observe latency, or conduct Iperf tests.

I ran some tests on Speedtest using the same server. Results varied: Win down 30/40 up, Android down 30 up, Ubuntu laptop wifi card down 35 up, Ubuntu with dongle down 15 up. It looks like the issue is likely on Windows. Interestingly, before using the dongle, my phone hotspot performed poorly without the PDAnet app. Now the router connected to a Huawei B535-232 that has LTE internet with an unlimited data plan and tethering enabled.

I used a Ubuntu live OS and verified it functions flawlessly. I can achieve 30MB/s, whereas on Windows I’m only getting around 5MB/s.

It seems the problem isn't related to hardware, likely a driver issue.

I've tried both Windows and D-Link drivers, but the issue persists. It also occurred with another USB dongle and during a previous Windows setup. I'm starting to believe it might be a Windows bug, but I'm not sure how to fix it.
