When you don’t interact with your Dell XPS 15 9520 running Windows 11 Pro, after a while you might notice a brief black screen followed by a time display. After that, a background image appears and the date/time shows. When you click the mouse or navigate, it brings you back to your desktop. Occasionally, if the issue persists and you’re still on that screen, you’ll need to enter your Windows password. BitLocker is enabled. How can I stop this from happening when the computer is idle? Are there settings for power, sleep, or lid that control this behavior? When I press the power button, sleep mode, and close the lid, the system defaults to sleep for both battery and plugged-in modes. Why does this happen? The laptop seems to enter a state where it doesn’t fully power down, and the next time I open the lid it restarts without pressing the power button.

Are we entering an age where we must clarify what screensavers are? Do you feel outdated? Adjust the button and close.lid settings in the control panel, then go to system and security > power options > change plan settings. This will let you choose various behaviors depending on whether the device is powered on or off.

It's not a screensaver. It resembles an image, like when you press alt delete and lock your computer. It appears intermittently while you're idle. However, once you stay idle long enough, it transitions to that image but requires your pin to access it.

It appears in the same menu I mentioned regarding the power plan, specifically labeled Console lock display off timeout.
