Skyrim performance limit at 55 frames per second
Skyrim performance limit at 55 frames per second
Both Skyrim original and Skyrim SE run smoothly at 55 fps with and without mods. I’ve reinstalled them several times and updated drivers. GPU is an MSI GTX 980 Ti, CPU i7 4790K, 16GB RAM, using GSKIP JRIJAWS on Windows 7 at 1080p.
Results are somewhat different but still not as strong as before.
forcing the game to operate above 60 fps leads to major issues on computers for Skyrim and Fallout (or at least what I've heard). It might mean they added a patch to limit the frame rate to 55, stopping this problem now. But let's be honest, you won't notice much difference between 55 and 60 fps.
Adjusted settings in Skyrim preferences and NVIDIA control options
Physics stop working when you exceed 60FPS in original Skyrim. It seems similar for Skyrim SE too—likely the same engine limits it. Are you using a G-Sync display? Have you adjusted your monitor to 60Hz?
The frame rate isn’t consistent at 55 fps, with occasional stutters every couple of minutes. It might sound a bit annoying, but I wouldn’t complain if I hadn’t played Skyrim under smoother settings.
If you're facing stutters and related issues, they likely aren't tied to a locked FPS problem. It could stem from system load, background applications, SLI/CF settings, or other factors. More details would help us pinpoint the cause. At this point, there doesn’t appear to be any clear hardware concerns.
