It's a new experience playing Skyrim, especially with those early encounters. Your situation sounds serious—breaking into a house and stealing a horse is a big mistake. To turn things around, focus on rebuilding your reputation by completing side quests, helping villagers, and earning trust through helpful actions. Avoid confrontations unless necessary, and consider joining groups that value fairness. Consistency and positive choices will help you regain respect and gain rewards over time.

When they try to attack you, grab your weapon, set it down, and let the guard start talking with you. You’ll have the option to ask them to take you to jail.

Got it, I understand. Riverwood seems to be acting without warning.

I had to revise my earlier comment since it wasn’t in the right sequence. For Riverwood I’m still unsure about the details—remembering whether I killed the village chicken to win over the people is tricky.

Don't really earn rep points. If you have a crime rating, the only way to remove it is by walking calmly near a guard in the city. If they approach, you can choose to pay the bounty, bribe them, go to jail, or resist arrest. Without money for a bribe, you'll end up in jail. Completing five quests for NPCs in the city will earn you the title of Thane from the leader. Once you have the title, you can buy property there and get a special dialogue option when a guard confronts you for a crime. You can claim your Thane status, which helps with minor offenses, though it's unclear if it applies to higher bounty amounts. For more details on crime in Skyrim, check this out.

I’m stuck outside the city. Whenever a guard spots me, they attempt to harm me. I tried following Kloaked’s advice, but it didn’t work.

Depart from the city swiftly, using the rapid travel option to the opposite side of Skyrim. Activate the in-game rest feature and remain asleep for a minimum of three days before returning. Ensure the guards don’t attack during your stay, and focus on facing them initially.

I did what I had to, then they sent thugs after me for a few days. I took them down, and I spent three more days sleeping before they came back to talk. Here’s what happened: They said, “Stop.” Me: I’ll end up in prison. They said, “You’ll rot in the dragonsreach dungeon.” What do you think you’re saying for your defense? I asked, “What’s the problem?” After that, I could keep repeating this—my only choice was to say I’d rather die than go to prison instead of admitting it. That’s not what it should be.

Occasionally it doesn’t function properly, so you’re forced to rely on it. I used it several times when a quest wouldn’t advance. How much is the reward?
